Configure the Virtual Machine<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Shut down the operating system in your virtual machine.<\/li>\n<li>Add a second nework adapter tour your virtual machine by going into <strong>Settings<\/strong> and then clicking on the <strong>+<\/strong> button and choosing <strong>Add Network&#8230;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Configure the second network as follow.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/vmwarenet_01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/vmwarenet_01.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><u><strong>02. Configure your Entreprise Linux<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Login as root.<\/li>\n<li>Go under menu <strong>System<\/strong>, <strong>Administration<\/strong>, <strong>Network<\/strong>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_01.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Under tab <strong>Hardware<\/strong> select <strong>New<\/strong>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_02.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the drop down list choose <strong>Ethernet<\/strong>, then click <strong>OK.<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_03.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_03.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Configure as follow.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_04.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_04.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Under tab <strong>Devices<\/strong> select <strong>New<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong> <\/strong>In the list choose <strong>Ethernet connection<\/strong> and then click <strong>Forward<\/strong>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_05.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_05.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Select your interface on <strong>eth1<\/strong> and then click <strong>Forward<\/strong>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_06.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_06.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Staticaly set IP addresses: <\/strong>and fill the <strong>Address<\/strong> and <strong>Subnet mask<\/strong> fields with meaningful values. [update]This meaningful address can be determined on the Mac by issuing an <code>ifconfig<\/code> in the terminal. From the output, you have to determine the two virtual interfaces used by vmware. They are normally named vmnetX, where X is a number. The trick is to discover wich one is used for the local network. I don&#8217;t know if there is an deterministic way to do that. I&#8217;ve determined it the empirical way.[\/update] Finally click <strong>Apply<\/strong>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_07.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_07.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Close the window <strong>Network Configuration<\/strong> and say <strong>Yes<\/strong> when you&#8217;re asked if you want to save your changes.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_08.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leenet_08.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Go under menu <strong>System<\/strong>, <strong>Administration<\/strong>, <strong>Security Level and Firewall<\/strong>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leefw_01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leefw_01.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Under tab <strong>Firewall<\/strong> <strong>Options<\/strong>, open the pane <strong>Other Ports<\/strong> and<strong> <\/strong>click <strong>Add.<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leefw_02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leefw_02.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>In field <strong>Port(s)<\/strong> enter 1158 (this is for Oracle Entreprise Manager) and in the drop down list choose <strong>tcp<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leefw_03.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/leefw_03.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Do the same as in point 13 but with port number 1521 (this is for your Oracle database instance).<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Apply<\/strong> and then <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Reboot your virtual machine.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><u><strong>03. Configure the Mac<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open a terminal and add append to the file <strong>\/etc\/hosts<\/strong> the following line\n<pre>172.168.19.30 oracle<\/pre>\n<p>You need to be admin in order to modify this file. With this modification you now indicate to your Mac that when you enter oracle you would like to reach the IP address 172.168.19.30. Of course you have to enter the same IP address as the one you provide in point 9 from section 2.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/mac_00.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/mac_00.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Startup your SQL Developer add a new connection and enjoy.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/mac_02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/mac_02.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/mac_03.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/mac_03.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>If you also started the Oracle Entreprise Manager you can also reach it from the Mac.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/mac_01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spikesoft.ch\/wordpress\/upload\/2007\/10\/mac_01.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><u>04. Conclusion<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With this serie of two articles you&#8217;re now run the latest Oracle database version available on your Mac.
